Caption

Cancer of liver. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan showing metastatic growths on the liver. The liver (yellow) occupies most of the frame and the metastatic growths are represented by the dark areas on it. Metastases are secondary malignant tumours which, in the case of the liver, usually derive from cancers in the stomach, pancreas or large intestine. The most common symptoms of any liver cancer are weight loss, loss of appetite and lethargy. The later stages of the disease are marked by jaundice and ascites (fluid in the abdomen). The vertebral column (pink) is seen at bottom centre.
