Ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens) plant. This succulent plant grows in deserts and other arid areas in the south-western United States and in Mexico. It has long stems covered in spines, which produce small green leaves after the rains in the spring and late summer. The red flowers are produced between March and July. The ocotillo can reach a height of over 7 metres. Photographed in the Saguaro National Park, USA.
