Lung cancer. Coloured X-ray of the chest of a patient with lung cancer. A malignant tumour (dark, left) can be seen invading almost the entire right lung. Lung cancer is a common primary cancer which has strong associations with smoking, but can also be caused by atmospheric pollution and asbestos inhalation. To identify the type of cancer a tissue sample needs to be taken. Treatment can then include chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgical removal of all or part of the lung.
