Multiple myeloma. Coloured frontal x-ray of the right thorax of a patient suffering from multiple myeloma. Also known as myelomatosis, this is an incurable cancerous disease affecting bone marrow. In myeloma too many plasma cells are produced in the bone marrow and they in turn make faulty antibodies. This leads to adverse affects on both the patient's immune system and their production of blood cells. Treatment, including radiotherapy and anticancer drugs, can slow, but not stop, the spread of the illness.
