Lung cancer. Coloured positron eletron tomography (PET) scans through the chest of a patient with lung cancer (red/yellow) in the lower left lung. Lung cancers are most often caused by cigarette smoking, exposure to asbestos and pollution. Treatment includes a combination of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and the surgical removal of all or part of the affected lung.
