Stomach cancer. Coloured X-ray of cancer (orange) of the antrum of the stomach. This view is from the front. The stomach is the organ at centre right and across bottom. Food passes into the stomach at top. The antrum (lower left) is the final part of the stomach, from which the food is passed to the small intestine. Stomach cancer (gastric cancer) is usually in an advanced stage when it is diagnosed. Surgery is the most common treatment, with the removal of the cancerous area and the repair of the remaining tissues. If the cancer has spread to other parts of the body, the prognosis is poor. This X-ray also shows part of the bones of the spine (down left).
