This sagittal (from the side) MRI of the brain shows a large mass (tumour-) arising from the region of the pituitary gland and extending superiorally. It compresses and superiorally displaces the optic chiasm (the part of the brain where the optic nerves partially cross), which is obscured. This is a pituitary macroadenoma. It has a snowman configuration because the tumour- is constricted by the dura of the diaphragma sellae in the roof of the sella turcica. This is the classic appearance of a pituitary macroadenoma.
