This axial (cross sectional) T1 weighted MRI image of the brain performed without intravenous contrast shows a mass-like region of decreased signal (looks darker) in the deep right basal ganglia region of the right (on your left) cerebral hemisphere. This alone is a non-specific appearance but when it occurs in immunosuppressed people such as those with AIDS should be suspicous for lymphoma.
