Cerebral embolism. Artwork of the blood supply to the head showing an embolism (blockage) in the cerebral artery, a cause of stroke. The embolism (illustrated at lower centre) is usually caused by a blood clot and results in the interruption of the blood supply to part of the brain. A stroke is the damage caused to part of the brain by this interruption in blood supply. Sensation, movement, or function controlled by the damaged area is impaired.
