Brain haemorrhage. Composite image of an artwork of a brain haemorrhage (red) superimposed on an axial section through a human head. This section was produced by the Visible Human Project, in which the bodies of an adult male and female human were imaged by MRI and CT scanning, and by physical sectioning. This artwork depicts a haemorrhage caused by a burst blood vessel in the brain. This can cause stroke, a lack of oxygen to the brain, which results in varying degrees of paralysis, speech problems, dementia, or death, depending on the area of the brain affected. Strokes typically occur in the elderly.
