This axial (cross sectional) CT image of the brain shows a large cyst (large dark area towards the bottom of image) posterior (towards the bottom) to the cerebellum which communicates with the fourth ventricle through a malformed vermis (the mid line of the cerebellum). The tip of a shunt catheter (towards your left) is seen within the cyst. There is also noted to be hydrocephalus (enlarged ventricles - fluid filled cavities in head). This congenital malformation is called a Dandy-Walker malformation.
