Caption

Liver palm in an adult. Close-up of swollen and red skin (erythema) caused by a build-up of unmetabolised chemicals in the body of a patient with a liver compaint. Liver palm (also known as palmar flush) is often caused by liver disease; this is usually either hepatitis (inflammation of the liver) or cirrhosis (liver damage due to excessive alcohol consumption). Treatment usually involves the use of corticosteroid drugs to reduce the inflammation.
