Infected eczema. Close-up of an infected eczema rash behind a man's ear. The skin is scaly, yellow and crusted. Eczema is an itchy rash on the skin that sometimes causes blisters that weep and become crusted. The itchiness provokes scratching, which worsens the condition, increasing the risk of bacterial infection. Eczema sometimes results from an allergy, but often the cause is unknown. Treatment depends on the cause, and may include soothing ointments and drugs to reduce itching and inflammation.
