Simulation of the loss of vision caused by cataract, showing a virtually unrecognizable view of activity in Regent's Street, London. Cataract is a general term for the abnormal changes in the lens that result in it becoming opaque, with loss of sight to a varying degree. A mature cataract in an elderly person might appear as a white, cloudy mass over the iris. Cataracts are most commonly a problem of old age, although some may be complications of diseases such as diabetes, Wilson's disease & severe eczema. Steroid drugs & exposure to radiation can also cause cataract formation.
