Caption

Close-up of the eye showing a trabeculectomy scar on the iris, the result of surgical intervention to relieve glaucoma, an increase in intraocular pressure resulting from an obstruction in the drainage of aqueous humour. The trabeculectomy mark appears as the dark circle in the five o'clock position on the iris. In chronic simple glaucoma, additional features include cupping of the optic disc & a typical pattern in the loss of visual field.
