Allergic swelling around eye. View of a patient's eye with swelling, as an allergic response to dog 'contact'. The eyelids are puffy and red, with a fluid swelling (periorbital oedema) around the eye. This reaction is a response of the immune system to 'dog' allergens to which the patient has become hypersensitive. The most effective treatment for allergy is to avoid the cause. Drug treatment includes the use of antihistamine and corticosteroid drugs.
