Myopia. Artwork showing the difference between a normal eye and a myopic eye. Myopia (shortsightedness) is a condition where the eye (lower centre) is longer than it should be, and the light rays (white) focus before they reach the retina. In the normal eye (upper centre), the light rays converge exactly at the back of the eye. The red dashed line (myopic eye) shows the ideal position of the retina. Myopia causes distant objects to appear blurred, while nearby ones remain in focus.
