Caption

Benign eye tumour. Ophthalmoscope view of a melanocytoma (dark mass), a benign tumour, on the retina, the light-sensitive membrane at the back of the eyeball. The melanocytoma has grown over part of the optic disc (pale, centre), which marks the point at which the optic nerve and retinal blood vessels enter the eye. Although the tumour is benign (non-cancerous), its growth may damage the optic nerve, leading to defective vision.
