Cataract (grey) in the eye of a 56 year old man. Cataract is a condition in which the lens of the eye loses its opacity. It is a natural feature of ageing, but can also be caused by an injury to the eye, as was the case here. It leads to progressive loss of sight and may result in blindness. Treatment is by the removal of the lens and its replacement with an artificial plastic lens.
