Swollen eyelid of a 45-year-old woman caused by meibomitis, a disorder of the secretory glands on the eyelids. The secretion from the glands becomes thicker than normal, blocking the glands and leading to the development of cysts (chalazions) in the eyelid. Most cysts heal naturally, but some require surgical removal.
