Eye drops being used to treat the inflamed eye of a young boy. The eye inflammation is a symptom of an allergy to pollen grains. Pollen grains are small grains produced by flowering plants as part of their reproductive process. This allergy to pollen is commonly known as hayfever, and symptoms include inflamed eye and nose membranes, leading to watery eyes and running noses. Hayfever generally occurs in the summer. Eye drops are a sterile saline liquid that can contain anti-inflammatory medications used to soothe inflammation in hayfever.
