Inflamed cornea. Bloodshot eye of a 72-year-old woman with keratitis, an inflammation of the cornea. The cornea is the transparent layer covering the iris (blue) and pupil (black). An ulcer (green spot on the iris below the pupil) has developed as a result of the inflammation. It has been highlighted using fluorescin, a yellow dye that turns green when absorbed by eye lesions. For the eye before dyeing, see M155/604.
