Dilated pupil (left) in the eye of a 57-year-old woman, one week after surgery for a detached retina. The pupil dilation, using drugs, was done to enable access to the inside of the eye. The operation involved a vitrectomy (removal of some of the vitreous humour), and injection of air into the vitreous region of the eye to hold the retina in place.
