Folliculitis. Close-up of a red skin lesion caused by infection of a hair follicle. Folliculitis occurs when staphylococcal bacteria proliferate under the skin around a hair follicle, resulting in a tender, pus-filled inflammation. The condition can occur anywhere on the body and may spread outwards in a ring, causing permanent loss of hair. Treatment includes frequent washing, strict hygiene and antibiotic drugs.
