Skin lesions. Granuloma annulare lesions on the back of the leg of a 73-year-old woman. This is a harmless, but chronic (long-term) condition of unknown cause. It consists of a rash with reddish bumps arranged in a ring or circle and is usually asymptomatic, but may itch. It is mostly found in otherwise healthy people, although it may be associated with diabetes in adults. The rash disappears on its own within a couple of years, but may recur. It can be treated for cosmetic reasons with steroid creams or injections. If the rash is widespread, ultraviolet light therapy can be used.
