Blister on the toe of a child in hand, foot and mouth disease (HFM), a common disease of young children caused by coxsackievirus infection. HFM tends to break out in small epidemics in nursery schools during the summer months. It produces a relatively mild illness, with symptoms of loss of appetite, blistering of the hands, feet & inside of the mouth & a mild fever. No treatment is given, other than mild pain-killing drugs for painful blisters. The illness is not related to foot-and-mouth disease of cattle.
