Hydropneumothorax.X-ray of the chest of a patient with hydropneumothorax of the right lung. Fluid and air (black mass, lower left) are trapped in the pleural cavity between the lung and the chest wall. Hydropneumothorax may occur due to trauma, infection, an underlying disease or it may occur spontaneously. There is a risk the affected lung will collapse. Treatment is with a chest tube to drain the cavity.
