False-colour chest X-ray in a case of right ventricular hypertrophy, the enlargement of the right ventricle of the heart. The enlarged ventricle protrudes abnormally over the right lung field on left of image. Enlargement of the right ventricle occurs in cases of pulmonary hypertension, a condition of raised blood pressure in the vessels supplying the lungs. The pulmonary artery pressure is normally much lower than the pressure in the aorta and its branches that supply the general circulation.
