Bleeding heart. Gross specimen of a sectioned heart that has purpural bleeding (red patches) on its innermost lining (the endocardium). Bleeding like this can result from a decreased thrombocyte (platelet) count (platelets are essential for clot formation) or a reaction to a drug.
