Enlarged heart. Frontal chest X-ray of the massively enlarged heart (cardiomegaly, white, lower centre) of a 50-year-old patient suffering from cardiac hypertrophy of the left ventricle. Cardiac hypertrophy is the enlargment of the heart due to an increase in the size of its cells. The cause of cardiac hypertrophy is poorly understood and there is no cure. It will eventually result in heart failure.
