Cardiovascular system. Computer artwork of the human vascular system and an ECG trace. The heart is seen as a blue mass at the centre of the chest. The heart is a muscle that pumps blood around the body. Veins (blue) carry deoxygenated blood to the heart. The blood is then pumped to the lungs, where it is oxygenated, before returning to the heart to be carried around the rest of the body by arteries (red). The electrocardiogram (ECG) trace (bottom), shows the electrical activity of the heart. It is showing an irregular heartbeat (three peaks followed by one peak), which may indicate an underlying heart condition.
