CT reconstruction through the chest at the level of the heart. The heart is abnormally enlarged with thickening of the muscle of the left ventricular chamber. This can be secondary to longstanding hypertension (high blood pressure). The more tubular blue strucutres represent the different blood vessels going to or from the heart. CT (or CAT) scanners are complex machines which utilize x-rays to generate cross sectional images of the body. These types of scans can provide large amounts of information regarding the health of the tissues examined.
