Retinal phlebitis. Ophthalmoscope view of a retina showing blood vessels affected by thrombophlebitis. This is an inflammation of veins that can lead to clot formation, which impairs the blood flow through the vessel. Blockage to the blood vessels can lead to tissue death and blindness. Abnormal blood clotting can be treated with anticoagulant drugs, but the damage to the retina is permanent.
