Houseleek (Sempervivum sp.), also called Hens and Chicks, here grown in Jardin des Plantes, Paris, France. This is a genus of hardy alpine succulents found in mountains of Europe and once grown on roofs to guard against leaks and lightning. A rolled-up carpet of sempervivums was recently sold as roof cover.
