Caption

Dissecting aorta. Coloured 3D magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of the chest of a patient with a dissecting aorta. The heart is at centre. The aorta, the body's main artery, is running vertically down centre (yellow). A dissecting aorta is a type of aneurysm where the layers of the wall of the artery have split (dissected, orange line). Without surgical repair the condition is usually fatal.
