Stenosis of leg vessels. Angiogram of severely narrowed (stenosed) blood vessels in a patient's leg (seen as a small gap in the vessel at centre right). Stenosis is usually caused by atheroma, where fatty deposits accumulate on the inner wall of the blood vessels. Treatment is usually by angioplasty, a surgical procedure where a stent (wire mesh tube) is inserted into the narrowed region and expanded to regain normal blood flow.
