Intertrigo. View of a red rash resembling pustules across the breast in a woman. This condition is known as intertrigo, caused by skin folds rubbing together. It is excerbated by warmth, friction & perspiration. The affected skin may blister or scale and it may have an odour. Intertrigo is often found in obese or elderly people & occurs on the thighs, in the armpits, between the fingers, & on the lower breasts. Intertrigo is sometimes accompanied by seborrhoeic dermatitis or thrush (candidiasis). Treatment includes weight reduction & keeping affected areas as clean & dry as possible. Antifungal & corticosteroid drugs may be prescribed if there is an infection present.
