Palmoplantar keratoderma on the sole of a foot. This skin condition is characterised by the occurrence of symmetrical or patchy areas of hypertrophy (excessive growth) of the horny (keratinized) layer of the epidermis on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. It is usually hereditary. Treatment is by systemic or topical application of retinoid drugs (derived from retinoic acid).
