Kidney infarction. Coloured angiogram showing an infarcted left kidney. The infarction site is at upper right (red, V-shaped). Infarction is the death (necrosis) of tissue due to a poor blood supply. The occurance of a thrombus (stationary blood clot) or an embolism (moving blood clot) can lead to a poor blood supply. An angiogram is produced by taking an X- ray of tissue containing arteries filled with a radio-contrast substance, such as barium sulfate.
