Urethritis. Coloured urogram (X-ray) of the pelvis of a male patient with stenosis (narrowing, centre right) of the urethra (running from centre to lower left). The urethra is the tube that carries urine from the bladder (top) out of the body. The narrowing of the urethra is due to urethritis, an inflammation of the tissue around the urethra. The inflammation may be caused by an infection or injury. It is often caused by sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Symptoms may include painful and difficult urination and discharge. Treatment is of the underlying cause.
