Swollen glands on the back of a two year old boy's neck. This condition is also called lymphadenopathy. The glands are lymph nodes, regions of the body at which white blood cells aggregate. These cells are a major part of the immune system, and during infections the lymph nodes may swell up and become tender. This response was due to a viral infection.
