Lichen planus disease. Close-up of the skin of a 49 year old woman with lichen planus, showing inflamed rash-like lesions. This condition affects middle-aged adults but has an unknown cause. In some cases it may be of nervous or emotional origin (such as severe stress) but in others it may be an allergic reaction or due to drugs. In this case, it may be a side-effect of the ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor drug Perindopril, which is used to treat hypertension and heart disease.
