Meningioma. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of the brain showing a meningioma, a benign non- cancerous tumour. At upper centre is the tumour (red) located between the cerebral hemispheres. The cerebrum of the brain is coloured yellow and light purple; ventricles are dark purple (centre). A meningioma is a tumour arising from the arachnoid, a membrane covering the brain. It may grow to a substantial size and compress the brain but usually does not invade brain tissue. It may impair mental function, producing headache and vomiting. As the tumour is separate from brain tissue, it is usually amenable to removal.
