This coronal (frontal) magnetic resonance image of the brain through the posterior fossa, showing a large homogenously enhancing extra-axial mass in the right (shown left) cerebellopontine angle cistern, which is growing into the internal auditory canal. The differential diagnosis of a lesion in this location is acoustic schwannoma and meningioma (hemangiopericytoma), a vascular extra-axial tumour- now felt to arise from the pericyte of the capillary.
