Muscular dystrophy. Confocal light micrograph images of sections through normal muscle tissue (left) and muscle tissue affected by muscular dystrophy (right). Muscular dystrophy is a genetic disorder typified by muscle wasting and loss of function. In the abnormal section, the tissue has become disorganised in structure and the concentration of dystrophin (green), a protein important in normal muscle functioning, is greatly reduced.
