Caption

Mole. Close-up of a benign melanocytic naevus, or mole, on human skin. This dark brown birthmark is produced by abnormal clustering of pigment cells (melanocytes) in the skin. Moles usually develop during childhood or early adulthood; adults have on average 15-20 scattered over the body. Although harmless they can in very rare cases become cancerous.
