Port-wine stain. View of the leg of a child showing an extensive port-wine stain. They are a permanent and often unsightly type of haemangioma, or naevus, caused by an abnormal distribution of blood vessels. If the port-wine stain causes embarrassment or lack of confidence, it may sometimes be able to be removed by using laser surgery.
