Neurofibroma on a 71 year old man's back. A neurofibroma is a slow-growing benign tumour. It originates in the peripheral nerve fibres and is mainly composed of Schwann cells, fatty cells that insulate nerve fibres. This is a pedunculated tumour, that is it is growing on a stalk. Treatment is with surgical removal of the tumour.
