Caption

Cristate growth. The cactus at lower centre is exhibiting a cristate growth habit. This form results from fasciation, a condition in which the growing tip of a plant (the apical meristem) becomes elongated, producing flattened, contorted tissue with a crested or ribbon-like appearance.
