MODEL RELEASED. Male obesity. Nurse measuring the waist of an obese 24-year-old man. The patient has a waist-to-hip ratio of greater than 1.0. The waist-to-hip ratio is an indication of whether a person has excess fat being deposited around their internal organs (visceral fat) rather than being harmlessly deposited under the skin (subcutaneous fat). A ratio of more than 1.0 in men, and 0.8 in women, means that they have an increased risk of developing heart disease, diabetes or a stroke.
Model release available. Property release not required.
